Most builders give a warranty. A common one covers workmanship for one year, the home's systems for two years, and the structure for ten.

Every builder's warranty is a little different, so read the one for your home. Write down anything you find in the first year and send it in before the one-year mark.
Have your own inspector look at the home near the 11-month mark, before that first part of the warranty ends.
